We cultivate following the criteria of sustainable agriculture
Spanish almond producers
Sustainability commitments
Maximise the carbon absorption. Minimise energy consumption. Limit the use of fertilisers.
Respect for the land
We minimise the use of phytosanitary treatments and always follow the strict controls established by the regulation to maintain the biodiversity of our lands. To do this we prioritise alternative methods to chemicals, with practise, for example with the introduction of natural insects enemies of the pests for the preservation of the land field
Good practise
During the period of nesting and breeding of the various species of fauna that exist on the plantations, we stop the clearing in the streets, with the objective of not breaking the nests of the nidifugous species.
Circular economy
We contribute to an agricultural model based on the bioeconomy. We do not generate waste and we are capable of recycling what is not consumed into a resource.
Good practice
We favour the incorporation of natural nutrients to our farms.
In the harvest with the technology used, the almond hull is left on the ground, decomposing, and returning to recover the nutrients that it contains in the soil. It is a circular nutrient supply.
An agreement has been reached with farmers in the area for the use of the hull as food for their cattle, in exchange for the extraction of manure from these farms.
Saving water
Every drop counts. To optimise the consumption of water, we opt for the use of humidity sensors to adjust irrigation as well as drop irrigation systems.
Good practice
Our plantations are protected with anti-grass mesh in the planting line avoiding the rapid evaporation of water in the soil and thus reducing water consumption.
As well as this, the use of herbicides is avoided as they have a long residence time in the soil and that directly affects the health and development of the trees.
Likewise, in the search for the optimisation of water consumption, soil moisture control probes are employed that measure the amount of water available to the plant at different depth levels. In this way, what is strictly necessary is watered, preventing excessive water consumption.
Support for innovation
In Almondo we cultivate the almond conserving traditional techniques and applying the least invasive technology with the environment and with the almond tree. We work our processes relying on the latest technology, collaborating with suppliers of different topologies (machinery, fertilisers,…) to be able to develop our crops in the most efficient and innovative way. We are a modern company that conserves tradition.
Good practice
We are installing fertiliser quality control deposits in the drip lines and in sampling plots. In order to be able to corroborate the purity of the fertilisers that are being applied and thus avoid excessive consumption of water, fertiliser and energy.
Guarantee of a healthy, natural and quality product
Almondo’s goal is to work with the Spanish almond to maintain its origin and purity to the fullest and be able to offer the market our experience and knowledge through a genuine product, without genetic alterations and of the highest quality.
Good quality
We have an integrated pest management system and an integrated management of our crops. As well as a hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) system.
Traceability
Traceability to guarantee the food safety of our almonds. To be sure that the almonds have a Mediterranean origin, that they are Spanish almonds, unique flavour and texture.
Good practice
The agronomists of Almondo carry out a carefully supervised control in each process of the almond tree. Our plantations are specialised in diverse crop varieties, but always Spanish almond and we can search for the origin of each almond practically to its tree or homogeneous unit of cultivation.
Promotion of employment in agricultural areas
We are farmers, we love the land and we want our practice to endure over time. We contribute to the creation of wealth in our territory, promoting fair and dignified work on our plantations.
Good practice
We signed training agreements for young students with local Universities and institutes such as I.E.S Virgen de la Cabeza in Marmolejo Jaen, I.E.S. Doñana in Almonte Huelva, the University of Seville, Valencia, Cartagena or Murcia. We collaborate with investigation centres like CEBAS and CSIC developing test fields on our lands for scientific studies. We are committed to various local associations and entities, such as the Spanish Association against cancer. We also take part in the association of almond producers Asociafruit.
The Global Partnership for Good Agricultural Practice accredits us as a company that meets the highest standards in:
Global G.A.P. is governed to some definitive rules that must be followed by those in charge of plantation, and each unit is evaluated by an independent auditor to ensure compliance.
